Outline of Research
The Startup Incubation Center runs Business Incubation Programs—the Priority Program, and the Cultivation Program. In addition to managing the formulation of business models and business plans, we collaborate with Tohoku University Venture Partners, Inc., and others to support the establishment and growth of startup companies.
※Priority Program: Support for commercialization through joint research with companies
Research and development to evaluate full-scale commercialization of prototypes (evaluation of customer needs, proof of competitive advantage), and preparations for commercialization (development of high-value businesses, establishment of commercialization promotion systems).
※Cultivation Program: Support for Commercialization at Various Stages
①Customer needs assessment and marketing based on business plans and the use of prototypes and samples; (2) Support for formulating business plans and establishing startup companies based on the results of prototypes and customer development activities.
Research Purpose
We aim to promote practical applications through joint industry-academia collaborative research and development, and to promote entrepreneurship which utilizes research results from Tohoku University. To this end, we support world-class original research and development and the creation of new industries based on the results of this research.

Producing Startup Companies from Tohoku University
Achievement
The Business Incubation Program has supported 60 projects (11 Priority projects and 49 Cultivation projects), of which 18 have been incorporated as businesses. (*As of March 31, 2021)
In addition, since FY 2020, the above programs have been augmented with support for international applications (support for the application and acquisition of related international patents necessary for commercialization of research results) and COVID-19 support (including COVID-19 countermeasures, as well as early commercialization of research on post-COVID measures). We are working to further promote the development of new businesses.
