Name
Asako Sugimoto, Executive Vice President for Research, Tohoku University
Director of the Tohoku University Core Facility Center of the Organization for the Promotion and Support of Research Activities
Outline of Research
This project promotes the maintenance, management, and operation of research equipment, instruments and devices (hereinafter referred to as “equipment, etc.”) from a university-wide perspective under the support of the MEXT Project for Promoting Public Utilization of Advanced Research Infrastructure (the Program for Supporting Construction of Core Facilities).
Research Purpose
The purpose is to establish the following research infrastructure system at the University.
◆Strategic development of equipment, etc. and human resources by the Strategic Planning Council for Research Infrastructure Development
◆Establishment of systems for integrated management of equipment, etc.
◆Establishment of an environment that enables researchers from external research institutions, including those outside Japan, to utilize equipment etc. of the University
◆Training and development of technical staffs who can respond to new research methods and changes in research environment in collaboration with researchers
Expected Effect
The achievement of the mission of this project is expected to contribute to the promotion of education and research and the strengthening of research infrastructure based on the “Tohoku University Vision 2030,” as well as to respond flexibly to the needs of researchers and engineers inside and outside the university who use equipment, etc..
Achievements
The CFC was established on October 1, 2021, and a system has been established in which the Technical Support Center (hereinafter referred to as “TSC”), the Information Department, and the Division of Engineering and Technical Staff can work together to address issues related to research infrastructure.
To promote common use of equipment, etc., maintenance support was provided to a total of 13 pieces of equipment, etc. (support for self-maintenance) based on actual data on the use of equipment, etc. provided by the TSC. In addition, support was provided to a total of 9 pieces of equipment, etc. to create remote and smart environments for common use of equipment, etc. (all in FY2021).
The “Tohoku University Research Infrastructure Portal,” a technical information site for consultation on the use of equipment, etc. and for matching users with equipment, etc., was opened (March 28, 2022), and a temporary website introducing the activities of the CFC was opened (March 25, 2022, the name of that portal is a provisional English translation).
