Tohoku University Material Solutions Center (MaSC) is a cooperative base between industry, academics and government that has been set up in a joint effort by Tohoku University and its Institute for Materials Research, Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advance Metals, and Institute of Fluid Science and uses grants for facilities expenses from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.


Development of phase-sensitive X-ray scanner for high-sensitive non-destructive testing
Conventional X-ray imaging, which relies on absorption contrast, has been criticized as not very effective for examining materials made up mostly of light elements such as polymers. In order to solve this problem, we have been studying X-ray phase imaging that generates contrast from X-ray refraction. This project develops equipment for use in non-destructive testing based on the X-ray phase imaging method in collaboration with Rigaku Corporation.
